About this piece
The torso and shoulders read clearly enough — a seated figure, upright, composed. Then the rest: hundreds of steel wire strands erupting from the crown and cascading outward in every direction, a controlled explosion that refuses to resolve. Mental Mess is a portrait of the interior made exterior, the private noise given physical form.
The wire was worked wet from the weld, bent and pulled while still cooling, which is why no two strands read the same way. The figure itself holds still. What surrounds it does not.
