About this piece
Equal parts threat and marvel, Skeeter freezes the mosquito at the precise moment before it lands — body angled forward, proboscis aimed, six legs splayed wide for balance. Built from welded steel and dozens of individually shaped copper wire strands, the piece rewards close inspection: each leg segment is a separate weld, each coiling antenna a single continuous run of wire bent by hand.
The choice of copper was deliberate. Against the cold grey of the steel body, the warm reddish-orange of the wire reads almost biological — capillaries, veins, something alive. From a distance the silhouette is unmistakably insect. Up close it becomes something else: a study in patience and obsessive precision, hundreds of decisions resolved into a creature most people spend their lives trying to swat away.
