About this piece
Kite captures the bird mid-hunt — wings angled back, forked tail splayed for steering, the whole body locked onto something below. The form is built from flat steel strips that widen and taper like actual feathers, welded along a central spine and allowed to curve naturally under their own geometry. Small touches of brass at the chest catch light differently than the surrounding steel, marking the bird's center of gravity.
The walnut base does something important: it grounds a piece that is otherwise entirely about leaving the ground. Without it the sculpture reads as weightless, decorative. The wood anchors it to a specific moment — not a kite in the abstract, but this one, this angle, this descent.
